Designed for Clarity, Built for Ministry: Allison Park Church’s Concourse PA Upgrade
Allison Park Church’s concourse functions as their lobby, but it’s much more than that. The Concourse is a central gathering space that carries the energy of the weekend before and after services, while also scaling up to host large events like Easter egg hunts, kids outreach experiences, student retreats, worship nights, sunrise services, and large-scale meal packing serve events.
It’s a space built for people, movement, and ministry.
But while The Concourse worked well for gathering, the audio had become an ongoing source of frustration, and at times, literal headaches.
With its tall ceilings, wide footprint, and reflective surfaces, The Concourse created a challenging acoustic environment. The existing loudspeakers simply weren’t capable of covering the room effectively. To achieve intelligibility, the system had to be pushed to its limits, resulting in excessive volume, uneven coverage, and poor clarity. The space felt loud, but still difficult to understand. For events where clarity mattered most, the team often had to bring in additional PA through rentals or by pulling equipment from other areas of the building.
The space had potential, but the system wasn’t aligned with the mission.
Designed for How The Concourse Is Used
The new system was designed with intentionality, shaped by how The Concourse is used today and how it will serve the church in the future.
At the core of the upgrade is a JBL SRX906LA line array system, deployed in two hangs of six powered loudspeakers. This approach provides even, consistent coverage across the entire space, delivering clear, intelligible sound without overwhelming the room.
Instead of forcing a small system to do too much, the new PA distributes sound evenly throughout The Concourse. The result is a system that can operate at lower volume while delivering greater clarity and presence.
Speech is more natural and easier to understand. Music feels balanced and controlled. The overall environment is more comfortable, allowing people to engage without distraction.
Every decision was made to support the mission first, creating a system that disappears into the background and lets ministry take the lead.
From Overworked to Intentional
One of the most significant improvements is how the system performs in real-world use.
Previously, achieving coverage meant pushing the system harder, which only increased reflections and made the room feel chaotic. Now, the system works with the space instead of against it.
With controlled coverage and proper headroom, The Concourse can support a wide range of environments without sacrificing intelligibility. Whether it’s announcements during a busy weekend, a high-energy student gathering, or a large outreach event, the system responds consistently without needing to be pushed to extremes.
This shift brings confidence to the team and consistency to every experience.
Built for Flexibility
Flexibility was a key part of the design from the beginning.
While the system is currently deployed in a traditional left and right configuration, it can be reconfigured into a four-point deployment using a center truss. This creates an in-the-round setup that supports worship nights, youth events, and other unique gatherings.
This is a massive win for the team. It allows them to say yes to creative ideas and different configurations without needing additional equipment or complex setup.
The Concourse is no longer limited to a single layout. It can adapt and evolve alongside the needs of the ministry, supporting moments that require both structure and creativity.
Thoughtful Integration, Down to the Details
A system like this only succeeds if it is both powerful and intuitive.
The entire PA is fully integrated into Allison Park’s existing Q-Sys platform, allowing the team to control and manage the system alongside the rest of the building. Because the system is powered and networked over Dante, it ties directly into their existing infrastructure and makes redeployment simple and efficient.
Within Q-Sys, a dedicated control page allows the team to identify each individual loudspeaker in the array. When the system is reconfigured, this makes it easy to confirm which boxes are in each hang, ensuring the system is deployed correctly every time.
That level of visibility removes guesswork and builds confidence for the team.
Attention to detail extended beyond system design. From rigging to cabling, every element was installed with care, including custom heat shrink labeling with Allison Park’s logo on each cable. It’s a small detail, but it reflects a larger commitment to delivering solutions that feel complete, intentional, and built to last.
A Space Ready for Ministry
Before this upgrade, using The Concourse for events often meant days of extra work. Equipment had to be moved, borrowed, or rented just to make the space functional.
Now, the room is ready.
With a permanent, purpose-built system in place, Allison Park’s team can support events without the added logistical burden. They can move quickly, adapt easily, and focus on what matters most.
The space is no longer limited by its technology. It is equipped to support the mission with clarity and confidence.
More Than a Lobby
This project reflects something we care deeply about, helping churches steward their spaces well and maximize what they’ve been given.
By designing a system that fits the room, supports multiple configurations, and integrates seamlessly into existing infrastructure, Allison Park Church now has a space that fully supports their ministry.
The Concourse is no longer just a lobby.
It is a fully equipped, flexible environment that empowers people, supports teams, and creates space for meaningful moments to happen.
