A Fresh Start: North Way South Hills Launches with a Vision-Driven AVL System

North Way Community Church’s South Hills Campus is stepping into a new chapter of ministry. As the campus merged with another local congregation and renovated the building, the vision was clear: create a welcoming, modern worship environment that supports a video venue model church and equips every room for meaningful ministry.

From the ground up, the facility was transformed to bring new life to the auditorium, classrooms, and gathering spaces. Fresh Tech partnered with North Way’s team to design and install a custom AVL system that combines simplicity, clarity, and flexibility, all built to serve the mission first.

One Button, Complete Control

At the core of the project is Q-Sys control, which ties every system in the building together. With a single push of a button, volunteers can turn the entire campus on or off, ready for Sunday services or midweek gatherings in seconds. Complex audio, video, and lighting systems are simplified and tightly integrated, making it easy for teams to focus on ministry instead of troubleshooting technology. For a volunteer-driven campus, that simplicity and reliability make all the difference.

Reimagining the Auditorium

One of the biggest challenges of moving into an existing space is integrating new technology in a way that serves the church while preserving the natural beauty and character of the room. The auditorium was completely reimagined as the centerpiece of the facility, with careful attention to balancing natural light with visibility.

Large windows fill the room with warmth and life, but they also made projection difficult. The solution was a wall-mounted Taylorleds VE 2.4 millimeter pitch LED wall, measuring 16 feet by 9 feet in the center of the stage. This bright, high-resolution display ensures the streamed message is clear from every seat while allowing the windows to remain open. The LED wall preserves the character of the space and provides the clarity that a video venue campus requires.

The audio system was designed to match. Two d&b 24S loudspeakers paired with two V-Subs deliver full, even coverage that gives worship and teaching a consistent, powerful sound. The system integrates seamlessly with the church’s existing Allen & Heath dLive S5000 console.

Lighting completes the picture. Chauvet Pro R2X moving lights create a flexible front wash and stage looks that adapt easily to both worship and teaching. Existing house lights were brought under Q-Sys control, alongside onstage fixtures already provided by the church, giving the team a streamlined lighting system with simple management.

A Canon CR-N500 PTZ camera was also installed to capture services. The camera provides a live feed to the nursing mothers room and creates review recordings for their team, adding flexibility without complexity.

Spaces for Every Generation

Beyond the main room, the building needed spaces that would serve every generation. Three classrooms and a dedicated nursing mothers room were equipped with the same simplicity and clarity as the auditorium.

The classrooms feature Samsung TVs and Yamaha soundbars that make it easy to support teaching, video playback, and small gatherings. The larger classroom was enhanced with ten Chauvet Pro Hex 12s, giving the room flexibility for smaller events, teaching, and kids worship experiences. Custom patch panels provide future flexibility to support a band or other production needs. The nursing mothers room connects directly to the PTZ camera feed, ensuring families can participate without missing a moment.

A Collaborative Launch

The result is a facility that feels fresh, functional, and deeply connected to North Way’s mission. From push-button Q-Sys control to crystal-clear video and audio, every detail was designed to empower volunteers and engage attendees.

One of the most important parts of this project was collaboration. Fresh Tech worked closely with North Way’s production and campus teams to design a custom system, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. Every recommendation was shaped by the needs, values, and vision of the South Hills campus. The end result is a system that feels like it was built specifically for them—because it was.

When the South Hills Campus launched their first services with the new system, the energy in the room was unmistakable. Clear sound, vibrant visuals, and thoughtfully integrated classrooms all came together to support their mission of helping people experience life change in Christ.

For North Way, this project was more than an AVL upgrade. It was the foundation for a new season of ministry.
